PLEX never spawned anything that didn't exist before it was introduced and hasn't yet. All items or characters bought with isk traded for a PLEX someone spent $ to get were acquired or made through the game's mechanics.
It wasn't just 'industrialists' who didn't 'throw a fit' traders, 00 dwellers, just about everyone didn't 'throw a fit' as they all saw it allowed them to choose to give CCP $ and 'legally' get isk OR if they had the ISK to play without spending their own $. It also was a tool in fighting the RMT market that ran bots/hacked accounts by making their products less appealing.
Correct, but Bots don't require someone at the keyboard, so they are creating LP without someone 'playing the game'. which is many of the arguments against AUR
Which was my point, Plex didn't screw up the economy, but it did let rich (IRL) players buy their way to the top. Which, as you point out, most players supported... until it came back to bite them in the ass with the new cash shop money grab.
Now that rumors of Ships/items/SP for AUR are floating around everyone freaks out. All I can say is, what goes around comes around.
Look, I agree the AUR is most likely going to destroy the market and industrialists are going to take a hit. All I'm saying is you all should have started worrying more when Plex started, and you might not be in this position today.
I'm also aware that asking Eve players to care about anything but themselves and their wallet is like asking a 2yo to sit down and be quiet.
The bots still have to be run the resources have to be used (computers accounts etc) and they can't generate income any faster than players can the only real difference is that they are more consistent. Of course the more consistent they are the easier they are to catch.
Also botting is not a legitimate game play mechanic, and it's dis-ingeniousness to use a non-sanctioned play style to justify a sanctioned activity.
That's why Plex have not destroyed the EVE economy.
MT on the other hand is a completely different matter since it will be creating things instantly out of thin air for cash.
Think about this when you sell a plex then turn around and use that isk to buy a ship, some player had to spend time not only earning the isk to pay you but some other player had to spend the time building the ship, some player had to spend time moving the minerals some player had to spend time mining the minerals.
If you could buy a ship via aurum all that breaks down. No one spends the time mining the minerals no one has to spend time earning the isk no one has to spend the time manufacturing the ship.
It completely bypasses and marginalizes existing game content.
Further once such a system is in place the temptation will exist to maximize MT revenue by beefing up the Aurum purchased items and nerfing the non-aurum stuff. Sure they might resist at first but the bean counters will keep the pressure on they'll whisper visions of mountains of cash into Hilmar's ears and eventually they'll break down and you'll see more buffing of cash shop goods more nerfing of gameplay created items. They'll want to encourage more Aurum purchases so they'll nerf ISK streams.
Don't believe me? Go hunt down that MT presentation everyone has been linking here lately. That's exactly what EA did with Battlefield hero's. Because that's how you maximize earnings in a MT environment.
The difference being that in that game the people who weren't doing MT were freeloaders while the people in EVE that don't want to do MT are paying customers.
